Assessment of Polluted Soil Remediation Using Bacterial Community Tolerance to Heavy Metals as an Indicator

چکیده

The assessment of remediation on metal-polluted soils is usually focused total and/or bioavailable metal content. However, these chemical variables do not provide direct information about reductions in heavy metals pressure soil microorganisms. We propose the use bacterial communities to evaluate efficiency three techniques: crushed mussel shell (CMS) and pine bark (PB) as amendments EDTA-washing. A sample was polluted with different doses Cu, Ni, Zn (separately). After 30 days incubation, techniques were applied, community tolerance determined. If develop tolerance, it an indicator that exerting toxicity them. Soil developed response additions. remediation, showed decreases for all techniques. For Cu EDTA-washing greatest reduction respectively, while amendment PB most effective technique. Thus, successfully detect differences effectiveness

Bacterial Community DNA Extracted from Soils Polluted with Heavy Metals

This paper describes the application of two direct and one indirect methods for the extraction of microbial community DNA from soils polluted with heavy metals. DNA was extracted directly from soil using a gentle method based on soil incubation at 37°C with proteinase K and SDS, or the method was modified by the addition of a bead beating step. The indirect approach was based on the RNA/DNA ext...

Phytoremediation of heavy metals polluted environments

The rapid industrial development and agricultural growth and the indiscriminate production of pollutants have faced problems for human societies and the environment. Accumulation and pollution of heavy metals in the environment are the main important problems that as a result of human activities through extraction from ore and processing for various applications has led to the release of these ...

Heavy Metal Soil Content as an Indicator of Pollution

Two soil sample series were collected from 7 contaminated sites situated along a transect from the pollutant source, Zlatna copper ore-processing plant, and analyzed using different analytical methods. The soils collected in 1998 were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) after extraction with DTPA for trace metals and those collected in 1999 were analyze...

Screening of variable importance for optimizing electrodialytic remediation of heavy metals from polluted harbour sediments.

Using multivariate design and modelling, the optimal conditions for electrodialytic remediation (EDR) of heavy metals were determined for polluted harbour sediments from Hammerfest harbour located in the geographic Arctic region of Norway. The comparative importance of the variables, current density, remediation time, light/no light, the liquid-solid ratio and stirring rate of the sediment susp...

Tolerance of Heavy Metals by Gram Positive Soil Bacteria

With the intention of screening for heavy metal tolerance, a number of bacteria were isolated and characterized from a pristine soil. Two Gram positive isolates were identified as Paenibacillus sp. and Bacillus thuringeinsis. Tolerance of Cd, Cu and Zn by these bacteria was studied and found that both bacteria were highly sensitive to Cu compared to other two metals. Both bacteria showed the sa...
